Treatments of Carpal Tunnel

There are a variety of treatments used for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. The initial treatment consist of the following in my practice.

  1. Splinting of the wrist.
  2. Anti-inflammatory medication.
  3. Temporary work restrictions.
  4. Acupuncture- I have found this to be very effective in my practice especially for gamers and individuals who do extensive keyboarding or use of a mouse.
  5. Ergonomic Evaluations of the work or home office space can also be effective.
  6. Physical therapy/Gliding exercises.

For cases of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome that do not respond to the above treatment strategies, I give an injection of a steroid into the carpal canal. If this is not effective in providing significant relief of pain, numbness and tingling then we discuss surgery.

In my practice, surgery is never considered until all other effective non-invasive and non-surgical modalities have been used. I combine Eastern and Western medical modalities to treat Carpal Tunnel Syndrome before any surgical intervention. This is always best for my patients.
